Relics from the bygone age of the turnpike roads, of counting the miles, marking the boundaries and pointing the ways. Although now often sadly neglected, thousands still exist but they need protection and some tender loving care if they are to remain a part of our historical heritage. | ||||||

site will undergo continuous expansion. As the site builder
lives in the county of Essex there was initially an emphasis towards
milestones and other way markers in that county. However, as
further material became there has been a widening coverage. In
addition to Essex and Dorset, examples of Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire, Cheshire, Hertfordshire and
Bedfordshire milestones have been added in 2004.
