Some Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Milestones

.The modern boundary of Cambridgeshire includes Huntingdonshire [now a district but originally a county in its own right] and the Soke of Peterborough.  Over 130 milestones remain in the modern County.  Amongst them, Cambridgeshire boasts some early milestones.  The Trinity stones, erected on behalf of the Master of Trinity Hall on the road to Barkway, date from 1729-1730. The Great North Road passes through Huntingdonshire, running from St Neots through Alconbury to Wansford Bridge, West of Peterborough.  These pages contain a selection of  milestone pictures supplied by Mike Hallett, a member of The Milestone Society.
