The General Turnpike Act of 1663 enabled improvement of the road between Wadesmill in Hertfordshire through Royston to Stilton and Wansford Bridge.  However it appears that the section in Cambridgeshire was not developed until after a subsequent turnpike act in 1710

The road enters Cambridgeshire just North of Royston and continues North through Papworth Everard towards Huntingdon.
