Little Waltham [JVN] NGR: TL 7200 1561 |
Although road improvements in the area (Great Leighs by-pass) missed the site of this stone by 100 metres it will have to be monitored closely if further proposed road widening takes place. |
Great Leighs [JVN] NGR: TL 7266 1696 |
Probably to the
same design as the Little Waltham stone. Largely sunken with only
14cms left showing above ground level. LONDON is clearly
discernible and the known miles hidden underground should be 36.
It is hoped to raise and reposition the stone in 2003 once appropriate
red tape has been cut.
June 2003. An exploratory excavation was made to a depth of a little over a foot that revealed further inscriptions. Click on thumbnail for images. |
