Some Gloucestershire Milestones

From Jack Bayes  (10 March 2005)

Love the website!  In the past I have studied the turnpike road from Gloucester to Tewkesbury.  This was part of the Cheltenham & Tewkesbury Turnpike Trust.  It covered the road from Gloucester to Cheltenham and from Gloucester towards Tewkesbury for just over 4 miles to Norton Mill, (where the Tewkesbury Turnpike Trust took over).

In 1789 the Trust ordered milestones to be erected*, pictures of the four on the Tewkesbury stretch, now the A38,  are attached.
