STANSTED to LITTLEBURY

PARISH BOUNDARY STONES ALONG THE FORMER A11.

The stones shown below were first noted during the milestone survey.  All are identical in respect of design.  They are triangular in section and all share the same lettering style.  As they continue along a route of at least eight miles and numerous parishes, it is assumed that may have been set up by the highway authority or turnpike trust.  The date of setting up is unknown but the use of stone suggests no later than the mid nineteenth century.  Further information would be welcomed.
